I am grateful to have so many deserving Valentines in my life, but today I’m sending extra love to one who has been a dear and devoted ally in my journey through motherhood, not to mention that ancient time before it.  All of this support and she has never once expected a handwritten card, a box of chocolates, a lap dance, or anything else in return. What says love more than that?

Here she is captured during some of her finest parenting moments…

Playing gracious host to a new arrival. And forgiving me immediately.
*

Alerting me of a “playing in the recycling bin” transgression.
*

Showing Dad Mom’s way the right way to bathe a kid.
*

Monitoring time-out.
*

Overseeing tummy time
*

Playing hide n seek.
*

Overseeing third round of tummy time, even though it’s harder with arthritis.
*

Giving the spotlight, every single time, to someone else.
Even though you had my heart first.

Happy Valentine’s Day, Zoe!

  1. ….and due to bad timing by her owner she laid by the blue mesh bag at the front door for two days. Gotta be careful of the clues they look for.

  2. I love Zoe, even though we’ve never met……labs are the best!!! There is not a more faithful companion on all the world! The “time out”pic is my favorite!!!! Happy Valentine’s Day to the McGuire crew!!!

  3. I love this post. I lost my dog to a brain tumor about a month ago and it killed me, particularly for this reason. He gave me such a companion in the often isolating time of young motherhood. Love to your sweet, sweet dog!

  4. Reading this post now and seeing these pictures brings tears to my eyes. I never really had the chance to know Zoe (I had one brief meeting, I believe), but I can tell from her eyes she was a kind, loyal and loving pup. Very sorry for your loss, Liz. It’s too much.
